Fractions 4 - Parts of a Group
So, we've been looking at a few things to do with fractions this week. From what I've seen, you've all coped with the content with confidence.
Let's step it up a bit.
We are going to use fractions to describe parts of a group.

Task 1: Dividing groups into fractions
For this task you need to get a group of objects (maybe 30 or 40) such as counters, beans, LEGO bricks, paddle pop sticks etc.
Working with a partner is always useful.
Task 2 -

Task 1: Dividing groups into fractions
For this task you need to get a group of objects (maybe 30 or 40) such as counters, beans, LEGO bricks, paddle pop sticks etc.
Working with a partner is always useful.
- So, take you collection of items.
- Count them
- Divide the group in half
- Record this as a number sentence (a x 1/2 = ?; therefore ? is 1/2 of a)
- Did you get an even number in each group or was there one left over?
- Then start playing with your pile of objects. What other ways can you divide your group without having any left over? Record these as number sentences.
